Our bioenergy ecosystem is made up of a number of major streams:
We have two Miscanthus laboratory and greenhouse projects, designed to each produce 11 million miscanthus plants a year, and sufficient for planting on 1,000 hectares per year.
Underpinning this are exclusive agreements with the world’s leading developers of miscanthus genotypes to produce and sell high yielding varieties developed specifically for the Croatian and SE European soils that deliver over 30 tonnes/hectare and capture up to 7.5 tonnes of CO2 per hectare.
We will own and operate a number of pellet production plants co-located with our cogeneration power stations.
The pellet plants will make pellets from forest residue, wood waste, Miscanthus and in the future, sewage sludge and municipal waste.
The pellets will be sold as fuel to the cogeneration power stations and into the pellet markets in Europe.
We are developing clusters of small, 2MW distributed renewable cogeneration projects in Croatia to supply clean power and heat to local communities and businesses 24/7.
Each project utilises proven gasification technology producing 24/7 dispatchable electricity and heat from certified forest residue, wood waste and Miscanthus.
Longer term, the gasifiers will also accept sewage sludge and municipal waste.
The cogeneration projects use a gasification technology which is certified by the Carbon Trust as Carbon negative. The output of the gasification is syngas and biochar, which can be used in improving soil.
The syngas derived from gasifying miscanthus and forest waste presents a promising avenue for eco-friendly bio-products, including renewable biofuels like bioethanol and biodiesel, offering cleaner alternatives to fossil fuels.
Moreover, it serves as a precursor for the production of bio-based chemicals and materials, such as methanol and bioplastics, reducing reliance on environmentally harmful petrochemicals.
Additionally, syngas can be utilized in the production of hydrogen, further expanding the scope of our sustainable energy solutions.
